An update, September 2025.
We're rolling out an exciting new transfer feature in the SquareKicker Dashboard, which will make it possible for you to transfer ownership of the SquareKicker connection for a website in your account, with just a few clicks. We expect this feature to be available to all users later this month. Until then, SquareKicker Support can manage any transfers for you. Below, you'll find the steps for requesting and/or receiving a transfer once this feature goes live.
Coming soon: How to request ownership of a website from your Dashboard
If you want to take ownership of a website currently attached to another SquareKicker account, you can either contact the owner directly, and ask them to follow these steps to transfer ownership, or you can do this via your SquareKicker Dashboard with these steps.
In order to request ownership you must:
- Be an Admin or Owner on the Squarespace website.
- Have an active SquareKicker subscription.
- Start the connection process with the site selector:
-
Solo subscription: Click Connect → Connect with Squarespace → Select the site.
-
Professional plan: Click Add Website → Select Professional plan → Connect with Squarespace → Select the site.
-
No active plan: Click Add Website → Choose a Solo or Professional plan → Connect with Squarespace → Select the site.
- Note: websites cannot be transferred to a Free Trial.
-
Solo subscription: Click Connect → Connect with Squarespace → Select the site.
- If the site is already connected to another user, you’ll see a pop-up modal that says “Website Not Connected”. From here, you can request ownership.
- Click Request Ownership. A pop-up modal will confirm that a transfer request has been sent to the current owner.
- The current owner will receive an email notification with your name and email address.
- Once the owner approves, you’ll receive a transfer invitation email. Follow the steps for Receiving Ownership (below) to complete the process.
Coming soon: How to take ownership of a website
If you have completed the above steps to request ownership of a website, or if you've asked the website owner directly (or if they have decided of their own accord to transfer the website to you) this is how to receive the website. It's okay if you don't yet have a SquareKicker account or active subscription - you can do that as part of this process.
- You will receive a transfer invitation email. Open this and click the Accept Transfer button.
- You will be taken to the SquareKicker Dashboard to complete the transfer. Log in or create a SquareKicker account. If you are already logged in, you will be taken straight to the next step.
- Review the Accept Transfer pop-up modal and click Accept Transfer.
- You will see a Website Transfer Success pop-up modal. The website is now in your SquareKicker account without a subscription.
- Choose what to do next:
- Add Subscription now → select a new or existing plan.
-
Close the pop-up modal → you can add a subscription later.
- Add a subscription for the site if you want to make customizations. You can add a site to:
- A new subscription (Solo or Professional).
- An existing Professional plan.
- An existing Solo plan (if no website is currently assigned).
- If you've already created a Solo plan subscription, and previously tried to connect a website, you can follow the same steps to connect and complete the transfer this way. The Solo subscription will show up in the Websites tab of your Dashboard. Click the “Connect” button on the right, and then select the website in your Squarespace site selector. If this is the website you've requested, it will transfer to your Solo subscription, completing the transfer.
Once a subscription is added, the SquareKicker Extension will be reactivated, and you can continue customizing your site.
Note that:
- An active subscription (Solo or Professional plan (Designer or Agency)) is required to make new customizations.
- No subscription is required to keep existing changes live (this means that your client can take ownership of a website without having to pay anything upfront. If they decide to make further customizations in the future, than can create a subscription at that time).
- Websites cannot be transferred to a Free Trial.
